Season 3 Episode 4

Description:

The Speech

After winning Reynholm Industries’ Employee of the Month, Jen finds herself less than inspired to write the acceptance speech she must present at the weekly shareholders’ meeting on Friday. When she turns to Roy and Moss for help, they see a prime opportunity to humiliate Jen in retaliation for winning the award even though “to a casual observer it would appear that (she does) very little,” and present her with a visual aid, on loan from the top of Big Ben (“that’s where you get the best reception”) and completely de-magnetized by Stephen Hawking himself: “The Internet.” Seemingly, the prank backfires when, during the meeting, the tech-inept shareholders hang on to Jen’s (really, Roy and Moss’) every apocalyptic word about the destruction of the internet (“planes will drop from the sky like tables, society would tear itself apart like an angry child with a napkin…”). Meanwhile, Douglas is very surprised to find out that the confession that the Richest Magazine reporter he is dating made before they slept together for the first time was, in fact, “I used to be a man,” not “I used to be from Iran,” which leads to tearful complications and a massive fight ending in a trip through a plate glass window and the consequential destruction of “The Internet.” Ending the episode more or less of an up note, the panic that ensues amongst the shareholders upon seeing “The Internet” crushed on the ground finally gives Roy and Moss the spectacle they had anticipated while writing the speech.
